Chromatography
Chromatography is a field where separation of different components of a sample is dealt with. There are two types-gas chromatography and liquid chromatography. In adsorption chromatography, stationary phase is a solid material on which the sample components are adsorbed. Mobile phase can be a liquid or a gas. In partition chromatography, the stationary phase is a liquid supported on an inert solid. Here also mobile phase can be a liquid or a gas. Ion exchange resins are employed as stationary phase in ion exchange chromatography. In size exclusion chromatography, solvated molecules are separated according to their size. Plate height, number of plates, efficiency, separation factor, retention time etc. are common terms used in chromatography.
